"What are the basket made of?"

All Mountain Trails baskets are made of sugar maple. They're double-woven - both horizontally and vertically - for extra strength. They are also riveted with copper plated steel rivets for extra durability. The Body shell is pulled and tapped down tightly to provide superior strength. Each basket is rimmed on the inside and outside with 1/8-inch sugar maple and secured with copper plated steel rivets. Basket handles are riveted wooden handles, or hand-cut leather handles. Each features a solid 1/4-inch birch plywood bottom OR triple-reinforced 1/8-inch sugar maple bottoms secured with brass plated steel screws. There are cleats on outside bottoms of each basket to add extra life to the bottom. Lidded baskets feature durable brass hinges riveted to rim and lid. Each basket is inspected after each handcrafted step of construction, and each is signed and dated upon completion by the artisan

"Where can I purchase Mountain Trails baskets?"

Our store locater is updated monthly, sometimes weekly. If there is no retail outlet near you, please Email Us and we'll find a solution for you!

"Is the dye used on the baskets safe?"

Yes :) All dyes are 100% USDA-approved food safe and Non-Toxic. They are lacquer based dyes that will not affect the flavor of any food items you transport. It took many years for us to find the correct dyes to use that would not only retain the look of a treasured heirloom, but would be safe for use in any circumstances. You may use your baskets with confidence.

"We'd like to have our logo / image put on the baskets."

Your logo or image can easily be sublimated into the wood! Please Click Here to Contact Us for more information.

"Can I stain a basket myself?"

Yes! If you have a stain color that you prefer, one you're perhaps using on something in your home, you can easily stain a Mountain Trails natural finish basket. Because the stains that we use are lacquer based, we cannot guarantee that your stain will apply well to a pre-stained basket - but a natural finish basket should stain with no problem.

"Our basket was purchased for outdoor use. Can we use a water-proofer?"

Yes! If a product is made to protect wood, it can be used on a Mountain Trails basket. Not only do today's spray poly's work well, our baskets look especially stunning with a hand-rubbed oil finish. If applying to a stained basket, you might want to spot-test an inconspicuous corner first.
